After being in trucking in one way or another since 1980, I have come to the understanding that drivers that follow the rules are quickly ejected from this industry. As such, I wrote a book called "Running Legal Blues" Available on Amazon.... Also, free to anyone in government that wishes to understand more about what happens to drivers that make the decision to run legal. Please contac me.
It has been my experience that drivers that will follow any new set of regulations that you might come up with will ultimately have the realization that the renegades of our industry will just ignore them. This will make it harder for the good guy to compete against the bad guy.
SAFE TRUCK DRIVERS OF AMERICA have a few simple request.
1. Acknowledge that we do exist.
2. Understand that blanket regulations that only the good guys will follow is the quickest way to bankrupt the good guys.
3. Safe Truck Drivers have been begging for years to improve the standards that new drivers must meet before being allowed in the industry.
4. Enforcement is number one. It must be done often and fairly with constant standards state to state. Not just officer discretion.
5. Understand that the driver of a CMV is most often the person with the least control over when and how that truck is moved. You are asking a lowly truck driver to explain to the owner of a million dollar company how it's going to be done. That is about as likely to happen as me telling Mr. La Hood how to do his job.
In conclusion, what SAFE TRUCK DRIVERS need is protection from those that would do us harm, As I outline in my book. Please know, that we do existed and that we are busting our butts just like you to make our highways safer. Any help you could give us in this regard would deeply be appreciated.
